Tautus recently embarked on a project with Cornish Metals, aiming to independently review the equipment to ensure compliance for its Cooks Kitchen shaft ‘New’ Siemag winding engine and its ‘New’ Zitron Emergency rescue winder at the South Crofty mine, which had been inactive since the 90s.
Tautus engineers had previously tested the ‘Old’ Markem double clutch, and double winders (now redundant) before the mine’s closure, adding to the satisfaction of now ensuring statutory compliance for the new equipment after all these years. This opportunity led to a unique collaboration with equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and a diverse team of engineers from various backgrounds and disciplines.
Throughout the project, the team encountered numerous challenges, including technical complexities and logistical hurdles. However, through open discussions and collaborative problem solving, they effectively overcame these obstacles. While specific details remain confidential, the collective effort and dedication of everyone involved resulted in a successful and comprehensive outcome.
A significant achievement of the project was the successful commissioning of the winding equipment for the purposes of personnel riding, enabling it to resume operations safely and legally. This milestone is pivotal for the mine, which had been dormant for over two decades.
Tautus’s independent involvement in this project reflects its commitment to delivering innovative solutions and overcoming challenges in complex industrial environments. Continued statutory testing will be conducted to uphold asset integrity and sustain the levels of conformity demanded. This ongoing commitment through testing underscores our dedication to safety and regulatory compliance, ensuring that the mine operates at peak performance while adhering to industry standards.
